Access Funding

WAF supports any Wisconsin resident who needs an abortion and people from neighboring states who have an abortion at a Wisconsin clinic. We do not require means testing, nor do we restrict funding to any gender, age, or past need.

How We Work

Wisconsin Abortion Fund (WAF) coordinates directly with abortion providers and other abortion funds in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota. WAF does not do direct case management. All funds raised for WAF go directly to support abortion care.

We pay the clinic directly.

We work with clinic staff to cover the cost of abortion care after you have contacted the clinic.

We do not require repayment.

We do not have any income qualifications to receive our help for the cost of abortion care.

How to Get Funding for Abortion Care

Step 1

Schedule an appointment for your abortion care, even if you are not sure how to pay for it.

Step 2

Let the clinic know you need help paying for your abortion care.

Not sure what to say? Try saying:

“I need help covering the cost of my abortion. Please bill the Wisconsin Abortion Fund directly.”

OR

“I am unable to cover the full cost of my abortion. I’d like to request $______ of funding from the Wisconsin Abortion Fund for the procedure.

How to Schedule an Appointment

If you are seeking abortion care in Wisconsin, state law requires two appointments with a 24-hour waiting period between appointments. The first appointment is usually called a “counseling appointment” and is legally required to be in person. The second (or later) appointment is when abortion care is provided.

Affiliated Medical Services

Affiliated Medical Services (AMS) is an independent abortion clinic in Milwaukee that has excellent availability for appointments. If you are visiting this clinic, let them know you need help paying for abortion care. They can use WAF funding to help pay for both the first counseling appointment and the second appointment for abortion care. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (414) 253-6400 or visit their website.

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) has clinics in Madison, Milwaukee, and Sheboygan (medication only in Sheboygan). If you need help paying for your first appointment, ask for financial assistance when you call to make the first appointment.  If you need help paying for your abortion care, you can also ask about financial assistance while you are at your first counseling appointment. Call (844) 493-1052 to book your appointment with PPWI.

How to Get Funding for Practical Support

WAF partners with Chicago Abortion Fund in Illinois and Our Justice in Minnesota to provide funding for lodging, transportation, and childcare for Wisconsin residents.

Due to restrictions under Wisconsin law, some people may choose to seek abortion care in Illinois or Minnesota, where people under the age of 18 are not required to have parental consent to get an abortion, there is no state-mandated counseling and there is no ultrasound requirement.

In Illinois, anyone with an uterus can get an abortion until the pregnancy is viable (usually 24-26 weeks). There are no restrictions on abortion in Minnesota, making it legal at any stage of pregnancy. In Minnesota, you can also work with Just the Pill, and have greater options related to telemedicine and self-facilitation of abortion care.

Traveling to Illinois

If you are a Wisconsin resident traveling to an Illinois clinic, contact the Chicago Abortion Fund (CAF) at (312) 663-0338 to access WAF financial assistance.

Traveling to Minnesota

If you are a Wisconsin resident traveling to a Minnesota clinic, contact Our Justice to access WAF financial assistance.

If you are seeking care in another state, you can also ask the clinic you are going to about other financial support options.

Get General Counseling

If you are looking for general counseling, all-options counseling is available at POWERS (Pregnancy Options Wisconsin), call (608) 514-1714.
