Decades of Fighting
for Abortion Access

WAF has decades of experience building meaningful relationships with clinics across the region and partners with several other abortion funds to ensure abortions are always fully funded.

Our Story

In 1972, a group of tremendously courageous volunteers established the Women’s Medical Fund, to subsidize the cost of abortion for Wisconsin residents. The founders of our organization aimed to ensure that no one was denied access to an abortion because they could not afford one. Throughout the history of our fight for abortion access, we have been committed to destigmatizing abortion and to providing support to abortion seekers.

In recent years, we went from being an entirely volunteer-led organization to an organization staffed by professionals. This shift ushered in a new era for our work and allowed us to become the Wisconsin Abortion Fund. It is with a great deal of reverence for the people who created this organization that we aim to be exceptionally clear about who we are and what we do. Calling ourselves the Wisconsin Abortion Fund is a declaration of clarity and purpose. We want to ensure that we are easily identifiable to both people who support abortion access, and people seeking support to access abortion.

Support Abortion Access

Giving even a small amount has a meaningful impact by making abortion affordable, including covering the cost of things like childcare, transportation, and lodging. Your contribution means self-determination, healthcare, and dignity for Wisconsinites who need abortions.
